Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: The city sub registrar was arrested Sunday for allegedly forging land documents and assisting a person in grabbing a 6,000-square-feet plot at Goutam Nagar.
Sudhir Kumar Lenka, 59, a resident of Kanan Vihar and Bhubaneswar sub registrar, colluded with one Jay Krishna Das, a resident of Puri, to grab the 6,000-square-feet plot, worth around Rs 6 crore, at Goutam Nagar, according to police. Lenka has been remanded to judicial custody, while Das is still at large.
Das was already in touch with the complainant and original owner Siris Kumar since 2012 and had presented himself as buyer, investigating officer Atanu Kumar Rout said. Das paid Kumar around Rs 50 lakh in 2012, promising to pay the rest later. However, Kumar later learnt through internet that the plot has already been sold to Das without his knowledge.
“Kumar, the complainant, is a retired chief engineer who lives alone. Due to his frailty, he couldn’t keep track of his plot’s status,” Rout said.
Das approached the sub registrar office, which did not offer any help. He suspected that the sub registrar forged the documents and mutated the plot to Das without his knowledge.
Cases under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120 (G) have been registered against Lenka by the Badagada police station.
