Cuttack: Hailing the recent police crackdown on tender and transport mafia, and criminals, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday appealed to the State Police to intensify its drive which would help create a conducive atmosphere for the development of the state.
Addressing the 81st State Police Foundation Day at the Reserve Police Ground here, Patnaik said the police play a crucial role in a democratic and a welfare State. “A pro-people and accountable police system is a common objective. The police have a major role to play in ensuring proper services to the poor, minority, SC/ST, differently-abled, women & children and other vulnerable sections of the society,” he added.
Patnaik, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, also announced a hike in the annual police welfare fund from `10 lakh to `30 lakh.
Patnaik advised the police to remain vigilant on several fronts such as intelligence gathering, crime investigation, coastal security, cyber crime and economic offence. The CM advised the police to lay special emphasis on women cells, women & child desks at police stations and community policing.
Director general of police (DGP) Kunwar Brajesh Singh also urged the cops to bring laurels for the state through hard work and commitment. “Orissa Police has successfully handled several events and issues like Nabakalebara festival and Maoist menace in state,” said the DGP.
The CM felicitated police inspector Sanjeev Kumar Satpathy, inspector Girija Shankar Chakraborty, inspector Suresh Kumar Bal, SI Kanhu Charan Raul, deputy subedar Kiran Kumar, ASI Sisir Kumar Biswal, havildar Phula Kumar Kiro, constable Birakishore Nayak, constable Khirod Prasad Singh, constable Prabhakar Lakra, subedar Bankanidhi Nayak, deputy subedar Swapan Kumar Sarkar, havildar Major Dillip Kumar Nayak, havildar Om Bahadur and sepoy Jayachandra Swain.
