CM lays stone of Ravenshaw 2nd campus

Cuttack, June 10: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the second campus of Ravenshaw University at Brajabiharpur village near Naraj here.
The police administration had beefed up the security arrangements in view of the protest from the local villagers who have accused the administration of grabbing their land for the campus.
“About Rs 1,000 is required for the full-fledged campus. Higher education minister Pradeep Panigrahi had announced and Rs 30 crore during the student union annual function, of which Rs 10 crore was given to the university,” said vice-chancellor PC Sarangi.
“We have a target to begin at least one course from the second campus from the next academic year,” Sarangi said.
The new campus is being constructed on 123 acres of land to ease the pressure on its crowded main campus, which was set up in 1868 as a collegiate.
During his three-hour visit to the city, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stones and dedicated to public several development and welfare schemes, including four projects of the health department.
Patnaik inaugurated the Swasthya Bhawan and a new building of the dental wing of SCB Medical College and Hospital and laid foundation stones for two urban community health centres in the city.
He also inaugurated the building of the Centre for Finishing Skills and Entrepreneurships developed by directorate of technical education and training (DTET) and dedicated to the public a road built by the public works department.
