BHUBANESWAR: A mobile app — Mayurshilp — was launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the inaugural day of Sisir Saras at the exhibition ground, Thursday . The app will help rural producers to have easy access to the market, understand consumer preference for specific products and meet demand for their product. The app was developed by ORMAS (Orissa Rural Development and Marketing Society).
The 11-day fair organised by the Panchayati Raj department and ORMAS, has 293 stalls setup by the 24 states of India and Orissa (number of participants 635). They will sell and display handicrafts produced by rural producers, artisans. The products include decorative lamps from TN, cane and bamboo works of Assam, woolen products of Manipur, HP and J&K, handloom and Kantha stitch products of West Bengal, the Chanderi
clothing of Madhya Pradesh, Phulkari products of Punjab and many others.
The Golden Grass Craft from Kendrapara, the Terracotta craft of Balasore and handloom products from Koraput and Dhokra are some of the things from Orissa that will be on display at the fair.
Naveen Patnaik appreciated the organisers for providing an avenue to rural craftsmen to sell their products at Sisir Saras. The organising committee estimates sales worth Rs 11 crore this year. Eminent Odissi dancer Saswat Joshi and Ileana Citarasti gave an Odissi performance on the inaugural evening. The Prince dance group of Berhampur also presented a performance. A two-day event is also being organised by ORMAS as it completes 25 years January 14. During the event a mini marathon will be organised from SIRD campus to Exhibition Ground. A blood donation camp will also be held.
