Bhubaneswar: Ties between the United States and Orissa would be strengthened to attract more investment to the state, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after US ambassador to India Richard Verma met him at the secretariat Friday.
“Discussed US-Orissa closer ties in investment, climate change & disaster mgmt with @USAmbIndia Shri Richard Verma,” tweeted the Chief Minister shortly after the meeting.
Verma and Patnaik explored ways for the US and Orissa to work together to raise investment and also collaborate in areas such as climate change and disaster management.
Earlier Friday, Verma met Governor SC Jamir and discussed ties between Orissa and the US. He also interacted with some business leaders of the state and gained insights into the improving business climate in the state. The main focus of the talks with the Chief Minister, Governor and business representatives from the state was to learn the priorities of “our work here”, Verma said.
“We will try to explore opportunities for US business. We will look at ways to increase trade and study opportunities for youth,” he said.
“We are trying to increase bilateral trade to $500 billion from the existing $100 billion,” said Verma.
Patnaik highlighted the new industry policy and reforms brought about to increase the ease of doing business, according to the Chief Minister’s Office. He also sought US cooperation for development of the IT & electronics sector.PNN
