Paradip, April 5: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during a tour to the port city on the last day of campaigning for
elections to Paradip municipality vowed to usher in rapid development in the
harbour and the city.
Patnaik campaigned for the party candidates in all the 19 wards of the civic body and appealed to the people to elect them. Later addressing a public meeting in a ground near Jayadev Sadan he said that the port is taking rapid strides in development which was founded by his father Biju Patnaik.
The development of the port has simultaneously ushered in growth for scores of people. Patnaik said his party is committed to bring in more development for the port city.
He asserted that BJD is always committed towards the growth of the poor, labourer, youths and women. “The BJD has instilled a sense of security among them”, he added.
Elaborating his government’s plan, Patnaik said the BJD government is planning to turn towns in the state into model cities and appealed to the
assembled crowd to be a part of
the growth movement by electing his party’s candidates.
He personally read out the name of all the 19 candidates and identified them before the assembled people.
State cooperation and excise minister Damodar Rout, addressing the gathering, launched a sharp attack on the candidates fielded by two national parties Congress and BJP.
Lambasting the BJP led government at the Centre, Rout said the dreams projected by the party have now started fizzling out with the party starting to privatise government enterprises.
He said the BJD will never allow
the Union government to succeed in its plan to handover Paradip port to the Adani group.
He further said the development that has been accomplished in the city has only been achieved during the BJD rule and whatever work that has remained unfulfilled will be completed by the state government during its tenure.
He said all the works relating to land dispute in the port have been completed and drinking water and power supply will be made available to people in all the slums within a period of six months.
The party’s city president Sumant Kumar Biswal presided in the meeting attended by ministers Jogendra Behera, Ashok Chandra Panda, Jagatsinghpur MP Kulamani Samal, MLAs Pratap Jena, Debashis Samantray, Prasant Muduli, Rajashree Mallick, Sashibhusan Behera, former MLAs Rabi Nanda, Umesh Swain and former minister Sura Nayak.
