Ganjam: A college going couple committed suicide Tuesday reportedly because their families didn’t approve of their relationship.
Locals spotted the girl’s body near Rambha-based Prayagi Aleswar temple while the boy was seen battling for life on the spot.
Family members admitted him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The girl was identified as Priyanka Sethy, daughter of Narayan Sethy, of Badachakal village under Ganjam police limits. She was a Plus III second year student of Khandadeuli College. The boy Siba Swain, son of Bhaskar Swain, studied in the same college.
Preliminary police investigation revealed the two were in a relationship for a couple of years. However, their families were against their relationship. They eloped on a motorbike Monday following which the girl’s family lodged a police complaint.
The couple was last seen near the temple, locals said.
“The two were in a relationship and committed suicide,” Priyadarshini Khatua, second officer, Rambha police station said.
Police recovered a bag, water bottles and biscuit packets from near the body. The girl was in her college uniform. She might have left home on the pretext of going to college and later eloped with her boyfriend, police said.
Two cases of unnatural death were registered and the bodies were sent for post-mortem while further probe was on, police said. PNN
