New Delhi: Languid strokeplay might make his batting look easy but Indian opener Rohit Sharma has said that making an international comeback after a six-month injury lay-off is easier said than done.
“Comebacks are not at all easy. After a major surgery, the difficult part is to conquer the inner demons. Only an individual can overcome his fears. My batting may look easy to the eye but trust me, it’s not that easy,” Rohit told this agency Thursday.
Rohit also explained how successfully he decoded mystery spinner Akila Dananjaya in the recently- concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka after the spinner took a six-wicket haul in the second game. “I realised that the speed of his googly was on the slower side while leg-breaks were faster. Spinners do bowl loose deliveries and Dananjaya was no different. So the moment those went for boundaries, the bowler came under pressure,” the right-handed batsman pointed out.
With the Australia series starting in a couple of days, Rohit is expected to play a vital role but the Indian vice-captain said that he believes in preparing for ‘conditions rather than opposition’. “One should know which shots to play on particular pitches and plan your innings accordingly,” he said.
Asked if the absence of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood would affect Australia’s chances in the limited-overs series, the stylish batsman replied: “Of course, their presence would have definitely made a difference. But then most of the Aussie boys have played IPL and are familiar with Indian conditions.”
