Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police Monday arrested Ajitav Mallik — producer of Odia film Arundhati – for allegedly cheating a woman assistant professor of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, a source said.
According to the source, the victim had paid Mallik Rs 85 lakh in order to purchase a duplex. The accused allegedly took the amount from the victim in multiple instalments for providing her with the duplex –worth Rs 1 crore — located at Kolathia in Bhubaneswar.
However, after receiving the amount from the professor, Mallik went incommunicado and did not handover the duplex to the woman, the source added.
Afterwards, the woman lodged an FIR against Mallik at Khandagiri Police Station.
After an investigation, police nabbed the producer.
