Cuttack: A Delhi-based consultancy firm has allegedly duped several software engineers of the state of lakhs of rupees by promising postings in multinational companies, sources said.
The incident came to light Wednesday when Arjit Ghosh, a software engineer from Bhubaneswar, filed a complaint in this regard with a cybercrime police station here. Ghosh also submitted several documents to police in support of his complaint.
Ghosh informed the police that at least 15 software professionals from the state have been cheated by the consultancy firm with each one shelling out around Rs 4 lakh to get a posting in multinational companies.
The Capital-based techie claimed that the consultancy firm had cheated several software professionals from Athagarh, Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur, Rourkela and Jajpur.
According to Ghosh, an official of the consultancy firm had contacted him October 25 and offered him a job in a Paris-based software company having branches across the globe. Lured by the offer Ghosh informed that he had got his name registered with the consultancy firm by paying Rs 1.5 lakh online.
“Some people claiming to be the software company’s officials had interviewed me twice over phone. They promised me posting in the company by November and asked me to pay an additional Rs 2.5 lakh. However, the consultancy firm and the software company did not send any communiqué to me after receiving the money,” Ghosh claimed.
The software professional urged the cyber police to trace the consultancy firm and prevent it from cheating others.
“I have urged the Crime Branch to trace all fake consultancy firms who dupe youths of lakhs by promising jobs,” said the Capital-based techie.
Asked about this a Crime Branch official said: “We suspect a racket involved in the cheating incident. Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the racket had duped several software professionals of lakhs of rupees.”
