Cop suspended for ‘ill-treating’ girl in Srimandir

Puri: A constable was suspended Saturday for allegedly misbehaving with a girl from Jajpur district inside Srimandir.

The girl had complained to Singhadwar police that the cop had escorted her and her parents to inner barricade from outer barricade and misbehaved with her while she was praying before the deities Saturday morning, said Puri superintendent of police Sarthak Sarangi.

A senior officer was investigating the case, he said. The constable was found guilty on the basis of “circumstantial evidence”, hours after the girl lodged her complaint, he said.

The constable will be arrested later, said the SP. The complainant, while talking to reporters outside the police station, had said she would be able to identify the accused if she saw him.
