Bhawanipatna: Bhawanipatna Town police in Kalahandi district know how to silence noisy bikers. It seemed so when they penalised as many as 13 proud owners of Royal Enfield Bullets on the charge of causing unnecessary sound and panic among pedestrians and drivers alike.
Throttling their bikes to make loud noise has become a fashion among some youths, most of whom purchase the bikes only to show off. This not only poses risk for other riders on the road, but scares elderly people, children and other pedestrians. Sometimes, this might prove fatal to the faint-hearted.
Just to show off, the offenders replace the original silencer fitted by the motorbike company with a noisy one that makes a thudding sound. Most of the time, other riders lose their balance because of the boom-boom of the bikes, resulting in accidents.
So, the Town police conducted a sudden raid and detained 13 bike owners in the town. They were fined and later released after a warning by the police. Following repeated pleas from elderly persons, Kalahandi SP Madkar Sandeep Sampat directed the Town police to detain the bikers and release them after a warning.
Acting on the SP’s order, IIC Satyanarayan Pradhan along with a police team conducted raids and seized the motorbikes. “We have released them after warnings. Action will be taken, if they repeat it again,” the IIC said.
