Covid-19 cases on ascendency again, 60 new fatalities reported

Bhubaneswar: New cases of Covid-19 infections are again showing an upward trend. A few days back, the daily rate of infection had dipped below the 1,000-mark. However, since then the number of cases has again been on the ascendency. The state reported 1,193 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of infected persons to 9,92,375. Odisha had reported 1,107 Covid-19 infections Thursday.

The active caseload in the state now stands at 10,809. Out of the new infections, 695 were reported from quarantine centres while 498 persons contracted the virus locally.

In the last 24 hours, Odisha also reported 60 new fatalities. It took the total tally in the state to 6,757 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Friday morning. The state had reported 67 Covid-19 fatalities Thursday.

Bargarh reported the highest number of deaths with 13 fatalities. It was followed by Cuttack (11), Bolangir (six), Angul, Jagatsinghpur and Sambalpur districts (five each), Deogarh (four), Dhenkanal and Jajpur districts (three each), Balasore and Jharsuguda districts (two each) and Bhadrak (one).

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 425 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 161 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Balasore (69), Jagatsinghpur (56), Jajpur (50), Angul (49), Nayagarh (39), Puri (34), Dhenkanal (31), Kendrapara (29), Mayurbhanj (22), Keonjhar (20), Bhadrak (15), Ganjam (13), Sambalpur (11), Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh (10 each), Bolangir and Rayagada (nine each), Deogarh (five), Kandhamal and Koraput (four each), Boudh and Malkangiri (three each) and Gajapati, Nabarangpur and Nuapada (two each).

The State Pool reported 96 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,68,88,487 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,177.
