Balasore: In a bizarre incident, a local youth who had tested positive for coronavirus was abandoned by his family and he later died at a government-run facility in Balasore district, Friday morning.

According to a source, the youth was from Nandor village under Khaira block of the district. He had been admitted to the Soro community health centre (CHC) Thursday after he complained of severe chest pain. Subsequent tests revealed that the youth was suffering from Covid-19.

After the test report arrived, his family members abandoned the youth at the hospital. They were afraid that they would get infected by the virus, sources said.

The Covid-19 facility officials contacted the deceased’s family to receive the body of the youth, but they did not turn up. Subsequently, the body was sent to the youth’s native place Nandor village by an ambulance for cremation.
