Puri: Srimandir Core Committee members and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials Wednesday detected several cracks on an intersection between Jagamohan and Natamandap at the 12th century shrine.
The joint team also found cracks on a beam near the Garuda Stamba. The Beharana Gate of Srimandir was found to be weak during a routine inspection Wednesday, said a source.
Meanwhile, the ASI has convened a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar Thursday to prepare a blueprint for repairing the crumbling structures at the shrine.
However, the expert team led by Anand Prana Gupta expressed satisfaction over renovation work at Jagamohan. “The ASI, Public Works department and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) have done a fairly good job with regards to Jagamohan repair. We will prepare a design to repair all weak structures at Srimandir,” Gupta said.
‘Mahasnana’ ritual
Puri: Srimandir servitors Wednesday performed the Mahasnana ritual of the presiding deities of the temple after a servitor bled with injuries inside the sanctum sanctorum in the morning.
Sources said priest Dinabandhu Pujapanda fell down in the sanctum sanctorum soon after the Baladhupa ritual around 10 am. Pujapanda suffered several injuries on his legs.
“Blood had defiled the Garvagruha. Servitors performed the Mahasnana ritual to sanctify the structure,” said an official of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration.
