Bhubaneswar: Odisha Crime Branch has arrested five men in connection with the murder of BJP’s Khurda Assembly constituency Zone 9 president Manguli Jena.
The accused have been identified as – Ispat Maharana, Simanchal Badajena, Chandrakant Pradhan, Dibyalochan Gajendra and Prabina Dhalasinghray. All are residents of Nirakarpur police station area in Khurda district.
Crime Branch is probing the arrested to unearth the motive behind the murder.
According to a source, all of them history-sheeters with several cases pending against them. Besides, they had attempted to kill Jena earlier on August 31, 2016.
It may be mentioned here that Jena was shot dead by two motorcycle borne miscreants back on April 14 night on the eve of general elections there. The incident took political colours as Jena belonged BJP. The saffron party had called for a Khurda bandh and held marathon protests demanding the arrest of the accused following which the case was handed over to Crime Branch.
