Bhawanipatna: Dana Majhi of Melghara village in the T. Rampur block of Kalahandi district, the man who carried the body of his wife for 13 km, once again came into the limelight Sunday after he lodged a written complaint against a media house for spreading fake news about him.
Dana Majhi lodged the written complaint against a journalist Subash Mahapatra and an owner of an Odia TV channel with the help of ‘Zilla Adivasi Kalyan Mahasangha’.
Majhi had taken news channels and the media by storm after a video of him carrying his wife’s body on his shoulder due to lack of funds to hire an ambulance went viral. After that many people came forward to help him. The Bahrain PM gave him Rs 8.78 lakh.
Meanwhile, Dr Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KISS and KIIT, also extended a helping hand to Majhi by admitting his two minor daughters in his institution. However, journalist Subash Mahapatra reportedly spread the fake news that Samanta had managed to collect Rs 100 crore in the name of Dana Majhi.
This news was spread by an Odia TV channel. This offended the Adivasi organisation who demanded an apology from Subash Mahapatra and the owner of the TV channel. However, there was no apology and that put Dana Majhi reportedly under stress.
Complaining that it was a strategy to defame Samanta, Majhi lodged a written complaint Sunday. IIC Ramesh Chandra Bisoyi accepted the complaint and assured a probe into the incident. PNN
