Bhubaneswar: School and mass education (S&ME) minister Debi Prasad Mishra Tuesday went to Chennai to meet Tamil Nadu’s ailing Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and enquired about her health condition. He carried the message of Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and wished for her speedy recovery.
Mishra, accompanied by former minister and BJD legislator Debasis Nayak, visited Apollo Hospital and talked to Tamil Nadu finance minister O Panneerselvam, who was present in the hospital since Jayalalithaa was admitted to the private hospital for the past 20 days. Paneerselvam was happy to receive the Biju Janata Dal leaders at the hospital. Mishra and Nayak spent for more than half an hour at the hospital and wished the speedy recovery of the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, with Jayalalithaa continuing to remain in hospital since September 22, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao Tuesday allocated eight portfolios held by her to Paneerselvam but said the AIADMK supremo will continue to be the Chief Minister.
‘‘Under Clause (3) of Article 166 of the Constitution, the Governor has allocated the subjects hitherto dealt by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to O Paneerselvam,’’ a Raj Bhawan press release said.
Paneerselvam will now onwards preside over the Cabinet meetings.
