Cuttack: Hundreds of relatives of deceased police officials, who died during their service period, met director general of police KB Singh at the police headquarters here Monday alleging negligence in their rehabilitation.
In a letter to the DGP, the family members stated that according to the rehabilitation assistance scheme if a government servant dies while in service there is provision to provide job to a close family member. Under the scheme, one family member of the deceased is appointed either a constable or a sepoy or a junior clerk in Group C if he/she meets the requisite physical and education qualifications.
The applicant should have 40 per cent marks in all subject to qualify for the appointment. However, those who applied under the scheme between 2006 and 2015 for the post of junior clerk were not informed about the criteria.
They received letters from police department in December 2015 regarding a written test which was conducted at Tulasipur high school January 10 this year. The applicants were informed that if they take the examination they would qualify for appointment. However, 136 out of 176 candidates failed to qualify when the results were declared in November.
“We are eagerly waiting appointment under the scheme for the last 10 years but authorities have ruined our hopes,” the applicants alleged. They requested the DGP to not deprive them of their legitimate rights and justice.
Singh said he would go through the scheme guidelines and take their pleas into account.
