Bhubaneswar: Gate 3 of Utkal University in Bhubaneswar again became a matter of contention after locals of the adjacent VSS Nagar launched a fresh demand to open it for public use as soon as possible.
The demand was put forth before Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, who was at the varsity to attend the silver jubilee celebration of Utkal University Retired Employee Association.
As per reports, the ace university originally had three gates. But the gate 3, near the VSS Nagar, was allegedly closed after erecting a boundary wall in front of it by a former Vice Chancellor.
The move effectively curtailed the movement of students and varsity employees directly to and from VSS Nagar, resulting in inconvenience.

Members of the VSS Nagar Development Council, including its general secretary Dillip Das Sharma and joint secretary Dharanidhar Rout, met the minister and put forth their demands.
Notably, guests of the event also came in support of the demand and urged the state government to open the gate at the earliest.
