Malkangiri: Following the inauguration of Gurupriya bridge at Janbai, the district administration Monday swung into action to carry on the development work as promised by the Chief Minister.
In the first phase, a rig vehicle has arrived at Badapada and Paparmetla panchayats to drill at least 100 deep bore wells to provide safe drinking water to the people by establishing four drinking water projects. Rural water supply and sanitation (RWSS) department junior engineer Manoj Nayak reached the cut-off region (renamed as Swabhiman Anchal) to oversee the activities.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a package of Rs 100 crore to improve the standard of living of the people of the area.
Despite the establishment of a connection through Gurupriya bridge, people of many areas including Jodamba, Panasput, Andrapali, Dhuliput and Jantri still remain cut off from the main land and continue to use the broken country boats as a mode of transportation, a report said. The residents demanded road connectivity up to Janbai to improve their quality of life.
Meanwhile, Collector Manish Agrawal said a 33/11 KVA substation would be set up at Badapada to improve electricity supply and health sub-centres would be established in six panchayats to provide healthcare facilities to the people.
Similarly, fingerlings worth Rs five crore would be provided for fish farming in Chitrakonda reservoir to better the living standards of about 2,000 fishermen, he added.
