Bhubaneswar, May 22: Vigilance officials Friday nabbed the inspector in-charge of Dhauli police station while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 to dispose of a case registered against a person from Lingipur area.
“Dhauli police station IIC Debi Prasad Das was caught red-handed while taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from Rakesh Das to dispose of a case registered against him,” a Vigilance official said.
A team of Vigilance officials laid a trap after Rakesh informed them that the IIC demanded Rs 20,000 to drop a case registered against him.
Rakesh said he was implicated in a case by the Dhauli IIC and Janani Hospital owner Basudev Patra.
“Patra used to burn biomedical waste in the area instead of disposing it properly and it used to emit a foul smell. I lodged a complaint with Dhauli police March 30, 2015. Police then warned Patra to stop burning biomedical waste in the area, which he immediately abided to,” Rakesh said.
“However, Patra lodged a false complaint against me with Dhauli police April 2 alleging I was threatening him to make a photograph public in which he was burning biomedical waste in the area,” Rakesh added.
“Dhauli IIC Das knew very well that the case lodged by Patra against me was false. Das called me April 16 and asked me to give Rs 20,000 to close the case. He asked me to deposit the money in two instalments, May 22 and May 23.”
After nabbing Debi, a team of 15 officials raided his residence in Pokhariput area and seized some documents.
