New Delhi, August 8: The government Tuesday cleared the appointment of Justice Dipak Misra as the next Chief Justice of India.
Justice Misra, who will be the 45th Chief Justice of India, will succeed incumbent JS Khehar, who retires August 27.
The outgoing CJI had recommended the name of Misra, the next senior-most judge in the apex court, as his successor.
Justice Misra’s tenure will be of nearly 14 months as the Chief Justice of India, as he is slated to retire October 2, 2018.
The 63-year-old judge will be the third person from Orissa to be appointed the Chief Justice of India, after Justice Ranganath Misra and Justice GB Pattanaik.
