New Delhi: The Indian Railways will appoint station directors at Bhubaneswar and Puri railway stations in addition to 73 stations across the country to ensure better service for its passengers.
The move will include 75 A-1 category railway stations including two from Orissa to empower station directors to ensure the positive image of the railways, customer satisfaction through service and also oversee other commercial development.
In the process, twelve officers will be posted initially. Postings will be done at Bhubaneswar and Puri by December-end by involving officials of the East Coast Railways (ECoR) zone. The ECoR, meanwhile, will help appoint the official at Vishakhapatnam station which falls under zonal jurisdiction.
The ministry Wednesday said, “It is the station directors’ duty to turn the stations into Centres of Excellence for the customers with the additional objective of ensuring vigilant and sensitive customer service exhibiting superior commercial sense.”
A team of officials will work under the station director who will have the authority to exercise decision-making in terms of traffic maintenance as well as provision of passenger amenities. The station director will also be entrusted with the task of earning revenue for stations beyond the fare through other means like commercial advertisements among others.
The department has decided not to recruit new manpower for the same but has decided to draw qualified persons from the department to act as directors.
The new officer will function independently in addition to senior station officers like the station master and station manager whose roles are confined to railway traffic and station maintenance.
