Collectors will purchase private lands, if leasable government land is not available, out of DMF and provide 10 decimal to each beneficiary
Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over non-availability of land for rural housing schemes, the state government has asked district collectors to purchase land for the beneficiaries from the district mineral fund (DMF).
Revenue and Disaster Management secretary CS Kumar and panchayati raj secretary DK Singh have sent communiqué to the district collectors of Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
Accordingly, the collectors will purchase private lands, if leasable government land is not available, out of DMF and provide 10 decimal of that to each beneficiary eligible for rural housing schemes like Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (Mining) and Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna (Gramin), official sources said here Monday.
“If the allottee is a homeless family and unable to construct a house due to non-availability of homestead land, the collectors shall utilise the funds available at their disposal under DMF for purchase of private land for
distribution among the
homeless beneficiaries selected under rural housing schemes,” read the letter.
The land pattas will be distributed under Basundhara scheme of the state government, it said.
Similarly, the government has also decided to regularise leasable land encroached by poor people for construction of pucca houses allotted under rural house scheme.
In all the districts where adequate leasable government land is not available, collectors have been authorised to purchase private land for distribution among the homeless families, the source said.
Earlier, the government had provided funds (Rs 7.09 crore) to 12 districts for purchase of lands. The districts include Bargarh, Kendrapara, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Khurda and Ganjam.
Basundhara is a flagship programme of the state government under which eligible homeless families in rural areas are provided land for construction of houses.
