Dry ATMs mar festival mood in Sadar, Joda

ATM counters go dry

Joda/Raisuan: Most of the ATM counters in Sadar and Joda areas are allegedly running dry for the last couple of days, leaving residents in distress.

Sources said the ATM counters of different banks at Joda and some nearby areas including Jurudi, Bemebari, Kalimati, Bhadra Sahi, Rugudi, Bileipada and Kandara are reportedly out of cash.

Locals alleged that the ATMs ran out of money even after a few withdrawals. For the last couple of days, people were returning without cash after waiting in the long queue for hours.

There are 13 branches and more than 20 ATM counters of different PSU and private banks in Joda area.

Besides, there are three ATM counters each at Jurudi and Bileipada, two at Bhadra Sahi and one each at Bamebari, Kalimati, Rugudi, and Kandara areas.

Former Zilla Parishad member Pitabas Mahakud said that people were unable to use ATM services in Joda, Barbil and Bhadra Sahi areas. It has been the case for the last 15 days, he pointed out.

On the other hand, customers who went to banks to withdraw their money with passbooks were told to use ATMs instead, sources said.

“We are yet to get the required amount of currency notes from Reserve Bank of India. Cash will be deposited soon at ATMs,” said an official of the Bank of India, Joda branch.

People from Sadar areas have also experienced the cash crunch. Locals said they are facing difficulties to celebrate Rajo festival due to the non-availability of cash at ATM counters.
