Bhubaneswar: In a bid to promote e-ticketing system, East Coast Railway (ECoR) Wednesday launched ‘UTS on Mobile’, a mobile application.
Passengers can download the application in their phones from Google Play store/App store/Microsoft store based on the smart phone operating system and avail unreserved tickets using railway wallet (R Wallet), an e-payment mode for railways. There is no service charge for purchasing tickets online.
ECoR General Manager Umesh Singh purchased the first ticket after launching the system from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack.
With this, ECoR became the first railway division in the country to introduce the facility of ITS on mobile over the entire zone in a single go.
Talking to mediapersons, Competition Commissioner of India (CCI) AK Behera said, “Instead of standing in long queues for tickets, passengers can use their smart phones to purchase unreserved tickets and platform tickets at stations. Besides being environment-friendly owing to its paperless nature, this would save a lot of time of the passengers.”
The ticket is generated in the app itself and there is no need for the passengers to take print out of the tickets. The option has been given in mobile app to book paper ticket in 15 nominated stations coming under East Coast Railway viz. Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, Khurda Road, Palasa, Berhampur, Bhadrak, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Visakhapatnam, Simhachalam, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram, Duvvuda, Sambalpur and Titlagarh.
