Cuttack, June 12: An elderly woman was murdered apparently by robbers for resisting their bid at Bhagatpur under Purighat police limits here in the small hours of Sunday.
The body of Haramani Sahu (68) was found in her house with limbs tied in the morning.
According to preliminary inquiry, miscreants broke into her house and killed her when she offered resistance to their bid. They tied her limbs and shoved a piece of cloth into her mouth. An almirah was found broken and gold and silver ornaments, cash and two motorcycles were missing from the house.
Purighat police along with a scientific team and dog squad reached the spot and began an investigation. According to sources, the victim’s daughter Gita and son-in-law Dilip Moharana were at the house while her son Debesh Sahu and wife Gauri were away when the incident occurred.
“When I came downstairs in the morning, I found my mother was lying on the floor with her limbs tied and door opened. The almirah was broken and valuables stolen. Two motorcycles parked on the verandah were also missing,” Gita said.
While the police are investigating the case, the deceased’s son suspected the involvement of insiders in the murder. He pointed fingers at his sister and brother-in-law in the crime.
