Kantamal: A villager was trampled to death by a tusker at Ghuchang under Bargaon panchayat in Boudh district Tuesday morning. The deceased was Bharat Bagarti (35) of Kutakheta village under Bargaon panchayat. Kantamal ranger and IIC reached the spot and started an investigation.
Sources said Bharat and his relative Dingar were on a bicycle towards Malikud at 3.30am. They came across a herd of elephants on the road near Ghuchang. In a bid to escape, they ran from the spot, leaving their bicycle behind.
Dingar managed to save his life by a whisker, but Bharat was not so fortunate. An elephant caught him, pinned him down and trampled him to death.
