Bhubaneswar: In a bid to defend itself from further embarrassment, the Commissionerate Police is vigorously hunting for leads into the Chandrasekharpur elderly doctor couple’s murder case.
Police sources said the role of the maid is being strongly suspected, as she has been absconding ever since the gruesome murder.
“Tikina of Phulbani has been absconding ever since the incident. She was one of the three maids working at retired ophthalmologist Prafulla Mishra and his wife Sushma Mishra’s house (VIM-608) in Sailashree Vihar area. Tikina was married to a native of Ganjam and her husband runs a shop here. The duo was staying in Salia Sahi area before fleeing the city. She had reportedly told the doctor couple that she will leave her job and had asked them to clear her pending dues. Tikina, her husband, and at least a couple of their associates went to the house of the elderly couple November 15 morning and we suspect that in an attempted loot bid they killed the duo,” they added.
“The CCTV footage of a house (VIM-613) situated close to that of the deceased shows that Tikina along with one more woman had come to the couple’s house November 14 evening,” the sources informed.
Keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the murders of Prafulla and his wife Sushma, police are tightlipped about the investigations.
DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, who is heading the investigations, had earlier told Orissa POST that they had detained two domestic helps of the deceased couple for questioning, but that the duo was later let off. On being asked about the third maid who is reportedly absconding, Bhoi said she had taken leave for some “personal work”.
