Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: A New Delhi-based firm headquartered in London along with three other firms Tuesday gave a presentation to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) top brass on the on-street parking management system.
The UK firm has suggested the municipal commissioner-cum- Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) vice chairman Krishan Kumar to emulate monthly pass system introduced in London for the people having two and four wheelers. Under the system, the vehicle owners need not have to pay the parking fees every time they park their vehicles.
The firms were invited by the civic body chief to give their presentations on the on-street parking management system, which they have implemented in a couple of cities across India and abroad.
Notably, BMC has chosen Master Canteen-Rajmahal Square stretch on a pilot basis after which it would be implemented on other congested streets to streamline traffic.
Two Bhubaneswar-based and a Pune-based firm had also made their presentations to the officials to woo the authorities so that they can bag the multi parking lots contract from BMC.
According to proposal, around 21 parking lots for bikes, scooters, cards and auto-rickshaws would be set up for which the civic body would float tenders to rope in firms for managing the lots.
“The firms had offered solutions of parking management in the city. It is not mandatory that BMC would finalise the process manager among the four firms which gave their presentations Tuesday,” an official said who attended the meeting.
Krishan Kumar, however, remained tightlipped on the development.
BMC had floated an expression of interest December 29, 2014 and invited national and global firms to give their presentations on the parking management system.
