Bhubaneswar: Expressing dissatisfaction over the poor show in disbursement of crop loan to farmers during the Rabi season 2017-18, the state government has asked all cooperative banks and societies to expedite the distribution work as well as meet the targets.
The registrar of cooperative societies has directed all divisional registrars of cooperative societies and secretaries of all District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) to achieve their respective targets in disbursement of crop loan worth `5,000 crore during this Rabi season.
As per a report of the state government on distribution of crop loans to the farmers during Rabi season 2017-18, the cooperative banks have distributed `2743.27 crore to 7,72,854 farmers against the target of `5,000 crore till February 2, this year. It means only 55 per cent of the targeted amount has been distributed.
Moreover, only 13 out of 30 districts have not achieved more than the state average of 55 per cent, official sources said Monday.
The poor performed districts include Nabarangpur (33 per cent), Deogarh, Nuapada & Sambalpur (36 per cent each), Gajapati (40 per cent), Bhadrak & Cuttack (42 per cent each), Bargarh (44 per cent), Nayagarh (45 per cent) and Balsore (49 per cent).
The best performing districts are Sundergarh (83 per cent), Bolangir (82 per cent), Rayagada (74 per cent), Boudh (73 per cent), Kendrapara (72 per cent) and Mayurbhanj (71 per cent), the source said.
“Rabi season will come to an end very soon. But the achievement is far behind the target. Constant monitoring and concerted effort will help in achieving the target. All the field functionaries should shoulder their responsibilities to provide hassle-free credit to farmers,” registrar of cooperative societies wrote to all cooperative banks and deputy registrars.
The registrar also asked the officials to review the progress on a daily basis and submit progress reports fortnightly.
