Jeypore, Oct 17: District excise officials Saturday raided a fake foreign liquor-making unit at Dashari Sahi in Borigumma block and seized crude liquor and equipment worth `5 lakh from the site.
A woman named Sunita Devi (32) was arrested and produced in court, her husband Binod Saha managed to flee. The couple hails from Bihar, officials said.
The seizure list included 36,360 litres of fake foreign liquor, 62,200 bottle caps, 1,452 fake seals of excise department, 3,200 empty bottles of various liquor companies and several syringes.
Coming from Bihar about 10 years ago, the couple started other businesses in the area after taking a house on rent.
But they got into fake liquor business three years back and used original bottles and caps of reputed brands for this. They even supplied caps, department seals and labels to other fake liquor-making units, officials said.
The source of department seals would be known after the arrest of the prime accused, Binod Saha, excise superintendent Rabi Prasad Patra said.
