Jajpur Road: A family was rendered homeless in a fire that broke out at Jagannathpur village under Rasulpur block in Jajpur district late Friday night. The house belonged to one Maheswar Swain, a poor labourer.
Valuables worth lakhs of rupees including electronic gadgets, household items and many important documents were reduced to ashes in the mishap. Sources said the incident occurred while the family was asleep after dinner.
All of a sudden, fire broke out and engulfed the entire house even before the family could realise what had happened. The family members rushed out to save their lives, while the house was gutted. Later, a fire tender team was pressed into service to douse the flames.
Luckily, everyone survived without any major injuries. While the exact reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained, a probe into the incident has been ordered.
Locals sympathised with the Maheswar’s family, as they belonged to a very poor family and demanded necessary compensation for them.
