Nayagarh/Ranpur: A young farmer lost his life after being struck by lightning while working in his farmland at Kandha Nayagarh village under Chandpur police limits in Nayagarh district Saturday evening.
He has been identified as Dukhishyam Kalasi (22).
Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface wind and thunder hit the village while Kalasi was working in his farm. In bid to avoid getting wet, he had gone to take shelter under a tree when lightning struck him.
Family members went to look out for him when he did not return home. He was seen unconscious under the tree and rushed to Tangi community health centre (CHC). However, the doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
The incident spread a pall of gloom in the area. A case of unnatural death was registered and the body was handed over to family members after autopsy.
