Karlamunda: With much hard work and labour, a farmer in Dhainrakhaman village under Karlamunda block in Kalahandi district has scripted a green success story.
Baldev Bhoi (35), a Class IX pass-out, earns decent money from his vegetable/greens farm. His success story started a few years ago when he got an acre of land from his father in property distribution after his marriage.
Enthusiastic to do something, Bhoi began greens cultivation in his one-acre farm. However, due to lack of irrigation facilities in his village, he suffered heavy loss. With little help from the administration, Bhoi approached the authorities concerned and requested for help.
But no official paid heed to him. Undeterred, Bhoi began to work hard. Slowly, with support from his wife Falguni, he managed to grow a good quantity of vegetables/greens in his farm.
As he was struggling to reap some benefits from his hard work, Odia daily Dharitri published an article on Bhoi and his farm. Soon, the irrigation department and the electricity department extended a helping hand to Bhoi who has not turned back since then.
Bhoi began greens cultivation that changed his life. Now, he has appointed eight women farmhands who pluck the green leaves and sell them in the weekly market. “A little help from the administration like supply of seeds and fertilizer would have helped me further,” Bhoi said.
Bhoi is also helping eight families in the village earn a decent living.
