Talcher, Feb 23: In a broad daylight robbery, bike-borne miscreants fired at a finance company official and decamped with Rs 68,000 from him near a petrol pump on the National Highway-53 here Monday.
Victim L Ajit Kumar, an employee of private finance company Magma Fin Corp in Angul had a providential escape from death as the bullet hit his left palm. Police rushed to the spot and started an investigation but failed to trace the miscreants by the evening.
The incident occurred when Ajit was returning to Angul after collecting money from people in Kaniha region. He was on his motorcycle when two youths on a black Bajaj Pulsar bike followed him and tried to waylay him near Kantal petrol pump on the highway.
Sensing danger, Ajit tried to speed away towards Talcher town when one of the youths suddenly shot at him. Critically injured, Ajit stopped there when the two beat him up and snatched the cash bag from him and fled. Ajit lodged a complaint with police.
