Keonjhar: In a strange incident, a climbing gourami (locally known as Kau) fish got stuck in the throat of a boy while he was catching fish at Badaposi village near Jashipur in Mayurbhanj district Saturday .
The victim was Siba Nayak of Badaposi village. He was rushed to the Karanjia sub-divisional hospital and from there to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital (DHH). Doctors there expressed their inability to treat him and referred him to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. There, the fish was extricated from the boy’s throat. “Siba is better now,” a relative said.
The family said Siba along with his friends was catching fish in a village pond. He caught a Kau fish. As was his usual practice, he held the fish tight between his upper and lower teeth, and continued his bid to catch more fish. The fish accidentally slipped into his mouth and got stuck in his throat. He faced much pain. Luckily for him, doctors did a good job.
