Kabisuryanagar: Delays in bridge construction projects have become one of the biggest challenges in recent times. There are many reasons for this which in turn affects other projects.
Take the example of the Baghua Setu at A-Barida gram panchayat in Ganjam district. The foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on January 1, 2014, but till now it is incomplete.
This is the only bridge that connects Panchayats like Kushapalli, Samantarapalli, Kaniari, Subalaya, Nachunibadi and Magurapunja. The delay in construction in increasing our troubles, the villagers said.
According to reports, in summer locals built a temporary road for movement of vehicles but during the rains it was washed away.
The villagers tried to draw the attention of district officials and complained to the Development Department too against the construction company but they were ignored.
Meanwhile, construction company manager Suraj Swain said, “We have been instructed to change the direction of the bridge as it hindered construction.” But later he assured us that work will be resumed soon.
On the other hand MP Ladu Kishore Swain said, “The delay in calling tenders was the only reason for the slow construction.”
Villagers have asked district officials to complete the bridge as soon as possible. The continuous protests by the villagers forced the state government to permit construction of the Baghua Bridge in the district.
