Kakatpur (Puri): Continuing its crackdown on illegal cash flow during elections, the flying squad formed by the Election Commission seized Rs 16.70 lakh in cash from a motorbike rider on Charichak-Kakatpur road in Puri district Friday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the flying squad along with Kakatpur police personnel intercepted the biker and seized the cash. He has been identified as Pranay Kumar Sahu of Jangalbori village under Gop block.
Sahu alleged that he was taking the money to give to some businessman for ‘pan’ business. However, police seized the cash and detained Sahu for further interrogation. Sahu has been asked to produce proper documents regarding the cash.
On the other hand, cops have launched a probe to ascertain the amount of the source.
