Bhubaneswar, August 14: The state government is mulling to set up food parks in six districts as part of its move to promote industries in the food sector.
According to an official of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) department, the food park will be set up in Ganjam, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Puri, Bargarh and Jharsuguda districts.
Orissa Small Industries Corporation Ltd (OSIC) has been asked to work out plans for establishment of mega food parks in Bargarh and Jharsuguda, while Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) has been asked to take steps to set up of food parks in the four other districts.
To promote investments in the food processing sector, the state government has framed the Orissa Food Processing Policy, 2013. It has also taken steps for promotion of industries in the food processing sector under the Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR), 2015.
The state cabinet decided to amendment the IPR, 2015 earlier this month to provide incentives to confectionery industries that invest above `20 lakh in backward areas of the state and above `50 lakh in normal areas.
According to sources, the state government is in the process of identifying 20 locations for development of mega food parks in the state.
