Dhenkanal: Former BJD MLA Nabin Nanda escaped an attack on his life after a bike-borne miscreant hurled bombs at his car at Thakurpal village under Gondia police limits in this district Monday afternoon.
The attack left the rear windshield of the car broken, while Nanda’s associates travelling with him also escaped unhurt.
Sadar sub-divisional police officer Sk. Abdul Karim, Gondia IIC Nirupama Jena and a forensic team conducted a probe into the attack.
When contacted, Nanda ruled out any personal enmity with anybody but claimed that the attack might be the fallout of political rivalry.
The incident occurred when Nanda after touring various villages in Kaluria panchayat was returning back riding pillion on an associate’s bike with his car following him.
He stepped into the front seat of the car after he experienced giddiness on the way. The car had reached Thakurpal when a bike-borne masked man hurled two bombs at the rear of the vehicle.
Later, the accused dumped his motorcycle near the village and rushed inside a house, the former MLA’s associates said.
