Phulbani: A former woman Maoist Jyoti Madkami alias Susmita, who had surrendered three years ago, tied her nuptial knot with her boyfriend at a temple here Friday evening.
The former hardcore woman Maoist walked down the aisle to start a new journey in her life, thanks to the efforts of Kandhamal police.
With the help of the cops, Jyoti married to Rahul Mallick at the Radha Krishna temple at Bataguda village under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district.
Kandhamal police made all arrangements for the special occasion. Kandhamal SP Prateek Singh himself along with other senior officials attended the wedding and blessed the newlywed couple.
He assured to provide necessary help to the couple to start a new life and join the mainstream of society.
Speaking on the auspicious occasion, SP Prateek Singh said the police have also provided financial assistance to Jyoti. “We have decided to provide her a good source of employment and hope, she lives happily ever after,” Singh said.
Jyoti Madkami also known as Susmita, a resident of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh was an active Maoist area committee member for nearly 14 years before surrendering before the Boudh Police in 2015 to return to mainstream.
Prior to Jyoti’s surrender, there was a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head. She was active in Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi and Nayagarh districts. Jyoti was the leader of Chetana Natyamandali, a cultural group of the red rebels.
Jyoti surrendered October 9, 2015.
Facing threat for her life, Jyoti was under the protection of Phulbani police. Her decision to lead a normal life has now become a reality after her marriage, Jyoti feels.
