Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chapter of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology will be organising the seventh ‘Purvanchal Gastrocon’ here September 27 and 28.
The annual event will host eminent experts in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology who will train other physicians, surgeons and practitioners about the latest medical technology in the subject.
Experts from across the country including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other North Eastern states will converge in the city for the two-day program.
Joint Organising Secretary of the Gastrocon said that eastern states are more prone to acid peptic, liver, pancreas and gall bladder diseases than people in North India due to their diet. ‘Medical science is an ever changing subject. In the last three years the branch of gastroenterology has progressed significantly. The aim of the Gastrocon is to bring the eastern states and Odisha up to speed with the recent research and treatment options, which can be translated into patient care. This will also help in less number of people going to other states for treatment, “said Manoj Sahu.
The group said it wants Bhubaneswar to be the next healthcare hub. It also plans to propose suggestions to the government that will come up in the program.
“Odisha does not have many facilities for liver transplant. Something should be done regarding that as well,” said Sushant Sethi, another Joint Organising Secretary of the Gastrocon.
