Puri: India’s first COP-style platform for interstate energy coordination, the Global Energy Leadership Summit (GELS) 2025, concluded in Puri Sunday with the launch of the draft Puri Declaration and the signing of four strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to accelerate the nation’s clean-energy transition.
Based on discussions over the two-day summit and inputs from the Union Power Ministry and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, a draft of the Puri Declaration was presented, marking a major step toward building a lasting, cooperative framework for India’s clean-energy transition.
Thanking the visiting dignitaries and expressing optimism about the declaration’s future, Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo stated, “The process of consensus for the Puri Declaration is underway, and once completed, it will be a collective acknowledgment that no single state can go alone—and our shared promise is that none will have to.”
At GELS 2025, four strategic MoUs were signed to accelerate Odisha’s clean-energy initiatives. These included collaborations on renewable-energy pilot projects with NTU Singapore, GRIDCO, and IIT Bhubaneswar; the establishment of a Green Hydrogen Centre of Excellence with GRIDCO, ReNew, IIT Bhubaneswar, and Avaada; and a renewable-energy development partnership between NIRL, OREDA, and GEDCOL.
