Delang: A young unidentified woman was found to have been gang-raped and murdered inside a forest in Puri district, police said Wednesday.
The body of the victim with her throat slit was found inside the Badhiguda forest near Mangupada village in the morning. She was aged between 22 and 24. The body was lying nude and her chest had injury marks inflicted by teeth. “She had bruises and injuries all over the body,” police said.
Police said that it appeared she was gagged and the hands were held back when her throat was slit. Some villagers noticed the body while in the forest to attend the nature’s call, and informed the police. Cops recovered an ATM card and a blood-stained knife from the spot.
The police conducted a search and recovered a pair of jeans, a T-shirt, a stole, a pair of shoes and a locket from under the bushes around 200 feet from the body. The police began the probe with the help of a scientific team. A case has been registered and the body sent to the district headquarter hospital in Puri, inspector-in-charge Dayanidhi Nayak said.
Police suspect miscreants brought the girl from some other area and gang-raped her inside the forest located along Delang-Khurda road and then killed her by slitting her throat.
Members of the Orissa Nari Sachetana Manch condemned the heinous crime. The outfit president Madhumita Rath visited the spot and appealed to the state government to arrest the accused immediately. She also met Delang inspector-in-charge and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and threatened to launch a protest if the police failed to arrest the accused at the earliest.
