Bhubaneswar, August 3: A Brazilian model on the ramp in clothing with traditional designs made a show of fashion garments in the city doubly interesting. Amanda Marques De Souza, who was in India for the first time, found the fabric and designs created by students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology “very beautiful”.
She was part of the show named Untold Stories which featured 45 collections created by students from different departments of the institute.
The collections included garments made of tassar silk for both men and women. The designs were a delectable blend of the traditional and the modern with lots of embroidery work. Some of the young designers said their designs were inspired by elements of nature such as the sky and the clouds.
Some students received the annual design awards at the function.
Vishal Subudhi, the centre director, said: “The theme of the show was to highlight the first thought that came to one’s mind. This show was a platform for the students to showcase creativity and enhance their potential. Students get to work with leading designers and be seen and recruited by leading brands in India and abroad.”
According to Vishal, the collections will be shown at different fashion shows around the country.
The executive director of the institute RC Dalal said the show gave importance to local art and craft which is “popular all over the world”. “All the garments presented here have a traditional touch. Some students even created fabrics modifying traditional ones,” Dalal said.
Amanda, the Brazilian model, was drawn to the designs not just for their beauty but also their usability. “The garments are suited for different occasions and the fabrics make them quite comfortable to wear,” she said. The model has been in the fashion industry since 2014 and has participated in several shows. She says she has found fashion in India unique.
