Bhubaneswar, May 11: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given ‘A’ grade to one of the seven colleges of the state that opted for NAAC accreditation that measures quality of teaching, infrastructure and other facilities in a college.
Five colleges got the ‘B’ grade and one got ‘C’ grade.
The NAAC accreditation has come as a boon for Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College, Sambalpur, which secured 3.6 grade points to get the ‘A’ grade, as the state government has recently proposed to the Centre that the institute be upgraded into a unitary university.
“The grade came at the right time and for a good reason. We have been working hard to sustain the quality of education in our college by maintaining good infrastructure and ensuring high quality training of teachers,” said Bishnupriya Hota, a faculty member of Gangadhar Meher College.
Four colleges have for the first time opted for accreditation. Of these, the Orissa Engineering College, Bhubaneswar, Chandra Sekhar College, Keonjhar, and Panchayat College, Kalahandi, got ‘B’ grade by securing 2.50, 2.02 and 2.01 grade points, respectively. Luipa Degree Mahavidyalaya, Mayurbhanj, secured 1.74 grade points and got the ‘C’ grade.
This is the second time that three of the colleges have opted for NAAC accreditation. These include Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College.
The other two colleges that opted for NAAC accreditation for the second time are Ekamra College, Khurda, and Khariar Autonomous College, Nuapada, which have secured 2.50 and 2.24 grade points respectively and have been awarded ‘B’ grade.
