Cuttack: The state government has filed an affidavit in the Orissa High Court regarding the alleged gangrape of a girl student near Kunduli in Koraput district.
As per an earlier order, the government informed the court Tuesday regarding the status of the police investigation into the case and the medical facilities made available to the girl.
A division bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi decided to hear the case after a week.
Advocate Gautam Siddque had filed a PIL in connection with the alleged gangrape and had urged the HC to order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the incident.
The petitioner informed the HC that the police had failed to give justice to the victim. He also told the court that some police officers had issued statements to the media rejecting the sexual assault allegation.
In a related development, doctors at the SCB Medical College and Hospital conducted an endoscopy and other examinations on the girl. “All reports are normal. We will conduct some advanced tests on her Wednesday,” said SCB superintendent Shyama Kanungo, adding that a lady doctor will counsel the girl soon.
SCB sources said the minor girl is now depressed. “The girl admitted that some inmates of a residential school in Koraput had opposed her presence at the institution. So, she had attempted suicide by consuming iron tablets,” said a hospital source.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities decided not to allow members of voluntary organisations and political organizations to meet the girl.
As per the decision, a delegation of the Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee was denied permission to meet the girl.
