Keonjhar: The Sarba Sikhya Abhiyan (SSA) may not have been fully effective in certain areas, but it has been useful for some orphans and destitute children, who have got a new lease of life at Atta Nodal Upper Primary School here with free accommodation, food and uniforms.
These kids were either neglected by their parents, or dropped their studies for some reasons or working as child labourers. Some even were picking rags before being rescued by the administration and admitted to this school.
Among those children are Kanha Mukhi, his siblings Sanatan Mukhi and Sunil Mukhi of Gumura. Another student Mehata Munda of Sanahundula was ripped apart by his parental conflict and was staying at his maternal grandmother’s house. But he was deprived of education against his will. Now, he is happy in getting education at the school.
Neglected by his family, Rahul Karua was wandering about in Dhobadihi. He has lost his mother.
Kiran Karua of Nayagad and Papun Mohant of Bamebari had been struggling to survive after being left orphaned.
The administration rescued them and rehabilitated them here for the last on year. These children are now happy, trying to forget their bitterness after getting out of difficult situations. They are now dreaming big to shape their lives.
The school was set up in 1927. A hostel was set up in 2013 where such deprived, orphaned and destitute children have got their new address. PNN
